Position: Engineering Project Manager

Overview: Engineering Project Manager (EPM)

A new full-time position under the direction of the Chief Technology Officer: This role will focus on standalone telemetry hardware design, testing, and manufacturing projects.The EPM will guide engineering project efforts from prototype stage through manufacturing and commissioning. The EPM will manage hardware and software vendor, (sub)contractor, and manufacturer relationships, ensuring adherence to agreed upon project goals, timelines, and costs. The EPM will arrange and ensure completion of internal and third-party testing and certification procedures. The EPM will work with R&D and Business Development/Sales teams to integrate new technology features and capabilities into future product releases or generations. The EPM will ensure that products meet rigorous customer demands for mechanical integrity, environmental and electrical safety, and manufacturing reliability/consistency. This role calls for an individual with working experience in mechanical and microelectronics product design and release cycles, with strong independent problem solving skills and the ability to define and improve internal processes and standards for ongoing engineering development cycles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set and adhere to manufacturing timelines in cooperation with contract developers/manufacturers
  • Manage electrical safety, environmental, FCC/RF certifications, testing and documentation
  • Define requirements, participate in vendor/contractor assessment/selection, and manage project efforts to delivery in accordance with technical, commercial and timing constraints
  • Manage engineering documentation: spec sheets, drawings, schematics/diagrams
  • Manage global/regional cellular hardware: manage modem, antenna, service provider selection
  • Supervise hardware supply-chain for manufactured devices, subcomponents, and configuration components (brackets, cables, antennas, etc.)
  • Communicate project deliverables and timelines to business development team, executive leadership, and sales staff
  • Work with software development teams to coordinate planning of edge-device and backend-server architectures, features, enhancements, and security updates


  • B.S. in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, electrical engineering, or related hard-science fields, or equivalent work experience. M.S. preferred.
  • 3+ years of work experience in the development of hardware products that incorporate battery-powered microelectronic systems. Industrial/scientific test and measurement experience is preferred over consumer product development
  • A candidate with work experience in electric utility, oil/gas/NGL infrastructure, telecommunications infrastructure or adjacent industries will have a strong advantage over candidates lacking this experience.
  • Strong knowledge of analog and digital sensor integrations and sensor applications
  • Experience managing third-party contractors, suppliers and regulatory testing and certification processes
  • Strong ability to manage complex projects and define, document, and communicate best-practices and workflows related to the EPM role
  • Passion for building products and services that we can proudly stand behind and present to our utility-industry clients
  • Outstanding remote-team collaboration and communication skills. Mastery of online workflow tools like Confluence, Slack, GitHub, etc.

Location: We are looking for a candidate willing to work from one of our two main office locations in

  • Somerville, MA, USA (Boston)
  • Louisville, KY, USA.

 This position will require occasional travel to manufacturer/contractor sites, remote team offices, and customer office and field installation sites. Travel may include North American and global destinations.
